Required documents

Candidates from abroad that may apply for tuition-free programmes in the Polish language:

  • citizens of the Member States of the European Union, the Swiss Confederation or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Member States which are parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, and members of their families residing in Poland
  • foreigners who have been granted a permanent residence permit or long-term resident status in the European Union
  • foreigners who have been granted a temporary residence permit due to the circumstances referred to in the Article 159(1) or the Article 186(1)(3) or (4) of the Act of 12 December 2013 on foreigners (Journal of Laws of 2017, item 2206 and 2282 and of 2018, item 107, 138 and 771)
  • persons with the status of refugee granted in the Republic of Poland or under temporary protection or subsidiary protection on the territory of the Republic of Poland
  • persons holding a certificate confirming the knowledge of Polish as a foreign language at the level of at least C1
  • persons holding a Pole’s Card or persons to whom a decision on determination of Polish origin has been issued
  • persons who are the spouse, ascendant or descendant of a citizen of the Republic of Poland, residing in the territory of the Republic of Poland.

The set of required recruitment documents for candidates applying for tuition-free programmes consists of:

  • application form (a printout from the on-line recruitment system – IRK)
  • identity document with photograph (for verification)
  • a document confirming the level of the Polish language and a photocopy of this document – acceptable documents are: a document confirming positive completion of a year-long preparatory course to study in Polish or a certificate confirming the knowledge of the Polish language
  • documents confirming education – equivalent of the Polish secondary school leaving certificate or diploma of completion of 1st or 2nd cycle studies, entitling to start a given form of education in the country in which it was issued and a photocopy of the documents
  • up-to-date medical certificate (issued no sooner than within the last three months) from a doctor of occupational medicine stating that there are no contraindications to studying in the chosen field of studies – certificate issued by a doctor of occupational medicine or a doctor authorized to conduct prophylactic examinations in Poland (a form of a doctor referral and medical certificate may be downloaded from the on-line recruitment system IRK)
  • 1 recent photograph complying with the requirements for issuing identity cards in Poland in electronic form

Remember that:

  • You have to indicate your correspondence address in the Republic of Poland.
  • If you are applying for a first degree or long-cycle studies, the required Polish language proficiency level is B1. If you are applying for a second degree programme, the required Polish language proficiency level is B2.
  • Documents issued outside Poland must be legalized or bear the Apostille.
  • All required documents drawn up in a foreign language must be translated into Polish by a sworn translator (a list of sworn translators is available on the website of the Ministry of Justice). If the translation is made outside Poland, it should be confirmed by the Polish consul in the country where the document was issued.

All required documents must be submitted by the deadlines specified in the admissions schedule.

  • in applying for studies in English: a document confirming the level of English and its photocopy – acceptable documents are e.g. language certificates
  • an application to the Rector asking to be admitted omitting the recruitment deadlines
  • documents confirming education – equivalent of the Polish secondary school leaving certificate or diploma of completion of 1st or 2nd cycle studies, entitling to start a given form of education in the country in which it was issued and a photocopy of the documents

Candidates from abroad applying for admission to tuition-based programmes are not bound by the admissions deadlines set forth for Polish citizens, however, the recruitment rules remain unchanged. All stages of the admissions process, including submission of the set of the required documents, must be completed by 15 September each year.
