The collaboration was initiated in 2014 by James Gostomski, a National Board certified teacher and NASPE Stars award winner, a professor with Polish roots. We are developing it under the ERASMUS+ program (Action KA107, exchanges with partner universities outside the European Union). Currently, the coordinator of this project on the American side is Paul Shirilla, professor and head of the Department of Health and Human Performance.
The American students entered our academic life with smiles on their faces and excitement, ready for the challenges. They had both didactic and integrative and ecological activities planned every day. They joined our key event ” Przewietrz się na Olimpijskim ” and worked side by side with Polish students at the children’s game booths.
They participated in our AWF-lays, had breakfast with the Rector and quietly danced with Polish students (sillent disco). Our guests also visited Elementary School No. 65 where they had a chance to explore the school’s premises and conduct language classes for seventh graders. Our Wroclaw children did very well with English, both at the sports fest and at school.
Our university invited students to the first international environmental workshop, which was attended by Erasmus students, Polish and foreign. We take seriously (and with pleasure) the priority slogan of this edition of the Erasmus program: “Erasmus goes green.” During the class, we listened to a presentation about the birds that live around the AWF and then built nesting boxes. The boxes were signed by the participants and in next spring we are counting on the little ones. We will keep an eye on the situation ;) Time flies fast in nice company – it’s true. It was 10 intensive days, we hope to meet again in such a group. To our partners from the USA, we thank you for the visit and invite you again.
On the project worked:
- – Dr. Urszula Szczepanik – preparation and supervision of students during the sports festival “” Przewietrz się na Olimpijskim “
- – Dr. Sara Wawrzyniak with Magdalena Węgrzyn – Polish traditional games and activities
- – Dr. Anna Malska-Śmiałowska – cowboy dances with seniors
- – Dr. Krystian Rubajczyk – tour of the AWF Central Laboratory
- – Monika Ilecka-Folcik, M.Sc. – coordination of the whole thing.
Well done!
